Sundance 2011: A Complete Wrap-Up!

02.04.2011

And so, another edition of the Sundance Film Festival goes into the books. This yearís edition was another incredible festival, featuring a lot of good films, and relatively few misfires. Once again, I was lucky enough to cover Sundance for JoBlo.com. I really canít do justice to how amazing a time I have while covering each of these fests, and Iíve been an exceedingly lucky guy to have had these incredible opportunities.

Iíve really got to thank my two amazing bosses here, Mr. Mike Sampson, and of course, Mr. JoBlo himself, for giving me these incredible opportunities. It means a lot to me that these guys have that kind of confidence in me, and I really owe them a lot for letting me attend these incredible film festivals.

Of course, I also have to thank all of you readers for the amazing feedback Iíve gotten from everyone both here and on MFC. You guys and gals are an incredible bunch of peeps- thanks for reading and taking the time to give me your feedback.

Every fest I cover is always chock full of good times and memories, and of those I can print (tee hee hee) here are some of my highlights.

- The RED STATE chase. While I was bummed I couldnít hit the already infamous RED STATE premiere, trying to hustle tickets kept me on my toes, and even hitting the encore screening on Monday morning was an experience, even if the film wasnít all that great.

- MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE. I had no idea what I was getting into with this film, but by the time the credits rolled, I was reminded of why I love indie films and Sundance so much. Itís the stories, and MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, is one of the richest films in that area that Iíve seen in a while.

- HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN! Itís rare that you get much of a reaction at the Sundance press screenings, but HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN rocked the crowd. Easily the wildest press screening Iíve ever been at. The only thing that would have made the experience even better would have been if I have a couple of beers to guzzle down, as this is the type of film that really demands a six pack (or two).

- Late nights at the Chateau AprŤs. This was the ski lodge I stayed at with some peeps from ioncinema.com, and one of the cool things about it was that a lot of Sundance volunteers and fellow writer/film fans were staying there too. Every night, around 11, people would meet in the common areas to chug a couple of PBRs that all-around cool guy Drew Howery was kind enough to share. Thanks for the brews dude!

Hopefully you all have enjoyed reading my reviews. My greatest hope is that these write-ups have encouraged you all to check out some of the flicks that will be coming out in the next couple of months. Thereís lots of good stuff on the way!
